As always, we participate in the Scientist’s night events. Microalgae are sensitive to the medium’s pH level, and the second generation has to understand from early on how to test acidity …
Oslo Innovation Week is in full speed… Yesterday we visited the ambassador of Estonia to Norway, Mr. Lauri Bambus, and later I had the opportunity to present Power Algae at the Innovation Norway matchmaking event.

Last weekend of January was dedicated to the Garage48Food Hack. Team Supercharger Inside did not go for low-hanging fruit, instead we went for the idea that would most further our personal development. As my teammates said, we could not have wished for a better hackathon experience!

The public session of the Microalgae In IT project was held today
at the University of Azores, followed by Q&A by the stakeholders, and coverage in a newspaper
and local TV channel. This time we presented what we aim to do in the course of
the project, next time it will be already about the first outcomes. Below a collage
of the amazing volcanic nature where our microalgae strains come from. Can’t
wait to be back!

Meet us at the sTARTUp Day Jan 29-31, 2020! sTARTUp Day is the biggest entrepreneurship event in Tartu, Estonia, bringing together founders and investors across industries. This year we don't have our own booth, but don't hesitate to get in touch to arrange a 1:1 meeting.

Our co-founder, Liina Joller-Vahter, was interviewed for the Estonian technology management magazine Director+Inseneeria. She explained our ambition for creating a circular system, where carbon capture and utilization (CCU) is achieved with the help of microalgae precision farming and valorization. That's the day - the sTARTUp Day! For us the program actually started with biotech events already on 23rd. We have been pitching for closed audiences also during the previous sTARTUp Days, but this year the Days came to us differently… First, together with our sister-company Algacap we joined the University of Tartu spin-offs' collective stand "Science to business", and moreover, we decided that just roll-up is not sufficient attraction - so we took one of our blinky-blinky prototypes along to the showroom, and also offered some microalgae containing snacks for degustation.

Today we were on the air! We had a super opportunity to present our recent developments and plans in the evening show "Ringvaade" on the national TV. While the time slot always seems too short, the main message was to come to our stand at the sTARTUp Day. The written summary (in Estonian though) can be found also on the Novaator website.

A very Happy New Year to all! It promises to become a good year to us, as we have joined the BioMed incubation program of the Tartu Biotechnology Park! Through various projects we have had occasional collaboration already before, but this will bring it to a much more intensive and hopefully also fruitful level.

Power Algae contributed to the first Bioinnovation Days in Tartu! While CEO Liina Joller was coaching the start-up teams, Prof. Timo Kikas from the Estonian University of Life Sciences presented the successful case of industry-academia collaboration. His team has become the main scientific partner for Power Algae in supporting R&D and industrial experimentation. http://www.bioways.eu/bioinnovationdays/

As most leading tech companies, Power Algae is also present at the Web Summit in Lisbon. As a start-up we were grateful to have the opportunity to have our own small stand and present the ALGACAP technology for CO2 sequestration. Why Web Summit? - you may ask... Because improvement of the system of various process monitoring and management sensors is one of the ways to reduce microalgae production and processing costs, and we are lucky to have Mihkel mastering it.

We are grateful that Enterprise Estonia approved our application for development grant, which enables us to conduct an industrial experiment to ensure that our technology works seamlessly also when applied in big scale. The industrial experiment project EU51353 "Development of the industrial biological CO2 filter" is co-financed from the European Regional Development Fund with 19 998,99 euros.

Prof. Timo Kikas from the Estonian University of Life Sciences and Liina Joller on behalf of Power Algae explained the potential of microalgae-based biological filters for CO2 sequestration from flue gas in the Estonian
Vikerraadio broadcast "Nutikas" (smart). The podcast is available here.

The sTARTUp Day was a big success, both for the organizers, the Tartu start-up community, and last but not least, to Power Algae! We received funding from the Vega Fund to cover 30% of the industrial experiment costs. The main support, 70% would come from the Enterprise Estonia Development grant. The project is scheduled to start in early 2017 and aimed at demonstrating viability and feasibility of CO2 sequestration from flue gas.
